Test Your Home For Radon
Fort Collins and Colorado are high radon areas

Do not abandon a housing sales transaction because of radon. You can test for radon and you can effectively reduce high radon levels. if building a NEW home, save time and money. Ask your builder, before construction, about installing a radon system.

The City of Fort Collins strongly recommends you test your home for radon and that your consider fixing radon problems.

Fort Collins radon levels average above 4 picocuries per liter of air(p/Ci/L), the level at which USEPA recommends action. Radon is a long-term health risk that causes lung cancer.

When testing during a housing transaction, a third-party tester is often used. The City and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) recommend you use only USEPA trained or listed radon service providers. Please call CDPHE at 1-800-846-3986for additional information. The USEPA radon training program is voluntary. Colorado currently does not require licensing or certification of radon service providers.
The best time to test a home is while you're living in it. However, it is also acceptable to test during the housing sales transaction. When testing prior to purchase, the City suggests you conduct your test during the inspection phase of your contract. Please read the attached booklet for more detail about dealing with radon when buying or selling a home.
